France is compact, its audience has shifted heavily to mobile internet, and storefronts and public services are firmly tied to the French locale. That makes the choice between a residential and a mobile address matter more than the price per gigabyte. Residential and mobile French IPs come from different places

A residential address is issued by a home internet provider to an end subscriber: one line, a flat, a router, one or two people. Such an IP reads as a private individual and holds a long session — an account back office, a page-by-page catalogue crawl, regional content.

Mobile French proxies are carrier addresses handed out through NAT: hundreds of live subscribers share one public IP. A platform cannot block that address without hurting real customers, so a mobile channel absorbs load more gently than a residential one. The fr-FR locale trips people up more often than the address

French storefronts, banking interfaces and public services speak French by default. An English browser interface on a French IP is a visible contradiction: the Accept-Language header, the system language and the country of the address diverge. Keep the fr-FR locale, the Europe/Paris time zone and a French interface aligned with the address.

Data formats break parsers more often than blocks do. A date is written 31/12/2026, not 12/31/2026. The decimal separator is a comma — 19,99 € — with the euro sign after the number and thousands split by a space: 1 234,50. A price is understood as TTC by default — tax included; the HT variant, excluding tax, appears mostly in B2B. If your script expects a dot, "1 234,50" becomes garbage.

Paris, the regions and the overseas territories

Ile-de-France holds roughly a fifth of the population and a disproportionate share of online orders, so the address pool there is densest and city-level targeting most reliable. Output is not uniform across the country: delivery times and cost, pickup point availability and even assortment differ between a Paris postcode starting with 75 and an address in Auvergne or Brittany.

The overseas territories are a separate case: Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion, French Guiana and Mayotte follow their own postal and tax rules, carry different shipping tariffs, and some sellers skip them entirely. The mobile pool sits almost entirely in mainland France, so an overseas mobile IP is hard to obtain.

A text page without media is 0.3–1 MB, a product page with images 2–5 MB, a feed with autoplaying video eats tens of megabytes per minute. A thousand product-card checks fit into roughly 3–5 GB. Disabling images, fonts and third-party analytics cuts consumption several times over — more savings than hunting for the cheapest channel.

How to verify the result, and when a datacenter address is enough

Four parameters need checking. The country, through any geolocation service. The city, because "FR" in a geo database does not yet mean Paris. The ASN — a home provider for a residential address, a carrier for a mobile one, a hosting company for a datacenter one (see what an ASN is). Not every task needs a live subscriber address. Uptime monitoring, calls to an open API, measuring response speed from a French region, checking certificates and DNS are covered by a datacenter IP at a fixed monthly price. It fails wherever the platform inspects traffic origin: geo-dependent prices, advertising dashboards, social networks, payment forms.
